About us

mobilising Baptist churches to stand together for justice

The National Church Life Survey has demonstrated that more than 80% of people attending Baptist churches believe that working for a more just society is an important dimension of Christian living. A Just Cause seeks to help churches implement this by connecting them with advocacy campaigns.

From the early 1990s Baptist World Aid Australia invested strongly in the mobilisation of Baptist churches into advocacy around global poverty, human trafficking, and ethical supply chains. The positive outcomes achieved raised the question of resourcing for advocacy on issues outside the remit of BWAA.  A Just Cause was established by Australian Baptist Ministries in 2014 to fill this gap.

Our three flagship activities are:

  • The development of an annual campaign for justice, endorsed by our denominational leadership, and which Baptist churches across Australia are invited to join.
  • Facilitation of Converge, an annual gathering of senior denominational leaders in Canberra to speak with our political leaders on issues of justice.
  • The development of resources to help churches build a concern for justice into their congregational life.

In pursuing these we work closely with our denominational agencies who are directly involved with ministries to those who are marginalised and disadvantaged, particularly Baptist World Aid Australia and Baptist Care.
